Store Migration

Clone, sync & transfer stores with zero downtime

A backup that can only restore to the same store is only half a tool. Kepvia clones your products, themes, pages, and metaobjects into any Shopify store you control.

Workflow

How store migration works

Four clear steps. Both stores agree before anything moves, and the copy runs on its own.

01

Connect the destination store

Enter the destination store’s address on the Migrate Store page to send it a request. Accept it from Kepvia in that store — installing Kepvia there through Shopify first if needed. You can cancel the request until it is answered.

  • Installs through Shopify OAuth
  • The destination accepts or declines
  • No tokens to create or paste
02

Start from your latest backup

Kepvia copies from your most recent completed backup. Run a backup first if you want the destination to match your store as it is right now.

  • Copies the latest completed backup
  • Your source store is only read
  • One migration runs at a time
03

Choose what to copy

Pick the resources to clone — products, collections, pages, blogs, metaobjects, themes, navigation menus and files — and decide whether to overwrite matching items in the destination or skip them.

  • Choose resources by checkbox
  • Overwrite or skip existing items
  • Articles and theme assets come with their parents
04

Follow it to the end

The copy runs on a background worker, so you can close the page. Kepvia shows the items copied so far and, when it finishes, how many were copied and how many could not be.

  • Runs in the background
  • Live count of copied items
  • Copied and failed totals at the end

Use Cases

When merchants use Kepvia migration

Designed to eliminate hours of manual CSV reformatting, broken image URLs, and lost theme settings.

Staging & Development Stores

Safest workflow

Never test new apps, liquid code modifications, or checkout revamps in production. Clone your live catalog, theme assets, and metaobjects into a staging store and test fearlessly.

Multi-Region & International Expansion

Global scale

Launching a dedicated US, UK, or EU storefront? Duplicate your primary store’s verified product taxonomy, navigation, and theme configurations in minutes instead of days of manual work.

Agency & Client Handovers

Agency favorite

Build reusable store starter templates, bespoke theme setups, and complete dummy catalogs in development stores, then cleanly migrate them to your client’s live account.

Wholesale & B2B Portals

Operations

Spin up a secondary Shopify store for wholesale or employee purchases with identical products, media, and inventory schemas while segregating pricing rules.

Security & Reliability

Engineered for risk-free data portability

Access is granted through Shopify and confirmed by both stores before any data moves.

No Tokens to Hand Over

Kepvia reaches the destination through its own Shopify installation there. You never create a custom app or copy an API token, and uninstalling the app removes its access.

Both Stores Must Agree

A migration can only write into a store whose admin accepted the connection. Before each run Kepvia checks the destination still has the app installed, so a broken connection is reported before anything is copied.

Granular Selective Sync

You don’t have to overwrite existing data. Choose exactly which resource groups to clone without wiping records in the destination store.

FAQ

Migration questions & answers

Do I need to create a custom app or an API token?

No. Kepvia connects to the destination through its own Shopify installation there. You install Kepvia on the destination store like any other app, accept the connection, and never copy a token between stores.

Does store migration require Shopify Plus?

No. Store migration works on every Shopify plan. Kepvia has to be installed on both stores, and someone who can install apps in the destination store accepts the connection there.

Does the destination store need a paid Kepvia plan?

No. Only the store you copy from needs a plan that includes migration. The destination just needs Kepvia installed to accept the connection; if it asks you to choose a plan there, the Free plan is enough.

Will product handles and collection URLs be preserved?

Yes. Product handles, page slugs, and collection handles are transferred identically, preserving internal linking structures and SEO value.

Does migrating affect visitors or checkout on my live store?

No. The copy is made from your stored backup on background workers, so your source store is not written to and its checkout, carts and storefront speed are unaffected.

Are customers and orders migrated?

No. Migration copies store content: products, collections, pages, blogs, metaobjects, themes, navigation menus and files. Customers and orders are not copied to the destination; they stay in your backups.

What happens to items that already exist in the destination?

You choose before each run: overwrite existing items in the destination with the version from your backup, or skip them and copy only new items.

How do I stop a store from receiving migrations?

Click “Disconnect this store” on the Migrate Store page of the source store, or uninstall Kepvia from the destination. Either one ends the connection.
